Online Career Planning

Online career planning is a particularly important in the pursuit of happiness for our lives. Identifying the right career that helps us pursue happiness is the point B you want to get to! Many of you are starting out in Career A, and realize that to be truly happy, you need to be in career B! See our website goals for further clarification on this essential point before you read on about online career planning.

Some of us seem to be born with the knowledge of what we are going to do with our lives. More power to them, but I was never one of themIt's been hard work for me in finding the right career and I tried a lot of them before I got it right. Click here for a personal biography if you want to know something more of this.

career fairThe point is, when we finally do find out the right career, we often realize we haven't prepared for it. That's ok, it just means there is a learning situation to resolve.

Start by finding the right career first. In order to locate that, it's is essential to understand yourself.  It's not important to get philosophical at this stage -- we're not talking about figuring out why you are here. We are, however, talking about developing more self awareness.

We are talking about what you need to be doing to be happy and content in your life. That's what we all strive for.  And what you need are tools for online career planning: to understand your personal preferences in the kind of work you like, the kind of relationships you like to develop, your leadership preferences, motivation, and so on.

Personal preferences have a lot to do with personality. Your personality is something you want to understand because personality dictates how we generally react to situations in our lives. Check out my article on personalities and how they develop to learn more.

Next, how you perceive the world around you is important. We all have different perceptual filters. Experts agree that how we operate with these perceptions critically affects our satisfaction and happiness in our careers. Read my article on perceptual filter meta-programs to learn more.

Finally, understanding your preferred learning styles is valuable because these can be an be an indicator of success and happiness with online learning.

There are several professional sites available for career assessments that endeavor to score your aptitude for certain careers. At this point I haven't been able to personally evaluate them for reliability and validity in how they assess people for these characterisitics so I don't recommend any one in particular.

Do check out these sites, but remember, aptitude at something may not indicate the right career direction to do that something! For example, I'm good at math, but don't want to be a mathematician, and probably wouldn't be a particularly good one.
